Slayer est un groupe de thrash metal américain, formé en 1981 à Huntington Park, Californie, par les guitaristes Jeff Hanneman et Kerry King[. Slayer est connu pour être l'un des groupes leaders du mouvement thrash metal, avec la sortie en 1986 de Reign in Blood, qui a été nommé « le meilleur album heavy de tous les temps avec Master of Puppets de Metallica ». Le groupe est cité comme formant le « Big Four » des groupes de thrash metal, avec Megadeth, Anthrax et Metallica[. Le groupe est toujours actif près de 30 ans après sa création. Slayer est connu pour son style musical particulier, y compris pour les tremolo picking, les solos, la double grosse caisse et le chant hurlé. Depuis leur premier enregistrement en 1983, le groupe a vendu quatre millions d'albums aux États-Unis. L'une des références et l'un des plus extrêmes des groupes de metal.
Megadeth est un groupe de heavy metal américain formé en 1983, en Californie par Dave Mustaine. Ils sont reconnus comme l'un des quatre groupes de thrash metal les plus influents (The Big Four of Thrash) avec Metallica, Anthrax, et Slayer. Le groupe se dissout en 2002 à cause d'une blessure nerveuse sévère au bras gauche de Mustaine, mais après beaucoup de rééducation pour ce dernier, le groupe a pu se reformer en 2004. On estime aujourd'hui que le groupe a vendu plus de 25 millions d'albums à travers le monde.
